ARALA STRATEGIC PLAN 2021 - 2026

ARALA • Dec 03, 2021

BACKGROUND

In 2000, the Atlantic Region Aboriginal Lands Association (ARALA) was established as a non–political, not-for-profit organization to operate as a technical land management advisory body to First Nations in the Atlantic Region. In 2019, it was incorporated and currently, ARALA includes membership from 19 First Nations communities within New Brunswick,

Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. ARALA’s member communities fall under a range of land management regimes such as the Indian Act, developmental and operations stages of the First Nation Land Management Act and the Reserve Land and Environment Management Program (RLEMP).

ARALA’s mandate is to assist First Nations interests in various land management functions and to create opportunities to network between each other on land related issues. ARALA also aims to develop and enhance communications among First Nations land management professionals; continuously build capacity and raise professional standards of First Nations land managers; and promote the successes of their membership in First Nations land management. It has offered training related to First Nation land management to staff in member communities and the tribal councils supporting them. ARALA continues to welcome participation and memberships from other First Nation communities in the Atlantic Region.
